Chapter 1: How can I make a backup of my WordPress created website?

Having a backup copy of your website is really important. Building a website is a very time consuming hobby and time is the most rare resource in todays world. Losing a website would be a really upsetting experience. So again having a backup copy of your website is really important (I can’t stop repeating it).

Making a backup of your WordPress created website is really easy.

All you need to do is login to your administration area, go to Tools and Export.

Select “All authors” and hit “Download Export File”.

The download process wil start and you will find a file called

wordpress.year-month-day.xml

That’s your backup. Keep it in a safe place.

Always remember to periodically backup the website keeping the backup file up to date. This saves you a lot of time and troubles.

Chapter 2: I lost my website. How can I retrieve it?

2.1 If you previously made a backup

If you previously made a backup of your website login to your administration area, go to Tools and Import.

Choose WordPress.

Hit “Choose File” and select the backup file on your computer.

Hit “Upload file and import”

and you’re done.

Afterwards check if everything’s ok.

2.2 If you didn’t make backup

If you didn’t make a backup before ask your hosting whether they can restore the MySQL Database as it was before the website was damaged, got lost, went nuts, was messed up and then reinstall WordPress using the already existing tables.
